The modern world economy is developing in the context of digitalization, so the phenomenon of digital currencies of central banks is acquiring an increasingly relevant and significant role. The central banks of various countries of the world began to systematically work on the issuance of virtual national money, because. convinced of the success of the introduction of cryptocurrencies into the global economy. The activation of banks in this direction began around 2018 after the introduction of centralized digital currencies in the progress of the implementation of global projects. The authors of this article explore the main models of digital currencies of central banks, divide these currencies into retail and wholesale ones, draw reasoned conclusions about the possible consequences of the introduction of digital currencies for economic, financial and payment systems.
